Network Engineer

The Network Engineer will be responsible for remotely configuring, powering up, and commissioning Ciena 6500 Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) and Waveserver equipment. In this role, you will help navigate the comprehensive challenges involved in the design and implementation of complex next-generation networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Turn-Up, Commissioning, and Testing of various Ciena Product Lines (OME6500, Waveservers, 6500 OLS, Reconfigurable Line System, RLS) in both Greenfield and In-Service Deployment environments of Submarine and Terrestrial DWDM projects;
  • Remotely configure and commission Ciena 6500 RLS and Waveserver devices according to technical specifications and project requirements;
  • Responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving complex technical issues that occur during these activities, as well as during in-service;
  • Deployment of Flex grid ROADM, OLS (6500 Reconfigurable Line System), and Spectrum Manager;
  • Perform software upgrades, including pre-upgrade license validation, software package handling, and backup of system configurations;
  • Collaborate with engineering and support teams to plan and execute software updates with minimal network disruption;
  • Manage power-up sequences and activation procedures remotely to ensure proper equipment initialization;
  • Collaborate closely with onsite smart hands or installers, providing instructions and support for physical installations, cabling, and fiber connections;
  • Validate network connectivity and optical parameters using provided system tools and monitor system performance;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to device configuration, commissioning, and power management in collaboration with engineering and support teams;
  • Document all commissioning activities, configuration changes, and testing results;
  • Support capacity changes, link calibration, fiber loss compensation, and connection validation as part of commissioning and network turn-up.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field;
  • Prior experience in telecommunications network deployment or optical network;
  • Experience of deploying, managing, and troubleshooting complex DWDM Optical Networks and resolving technical problems encountered during the deployment of green field networks and upgrades in existing networks;
  • Hands-on Subsea networks deployments, working understanding of subsea OLS design and parameters that impact the performance;
  • Experience of DWDM/CWDM Channel Addition, Node Insertions, Traffic Migrations, and HW/SW Upgrades;
  • Experience in a multi-vendor environment is essential, including: Ciena, Cisco, Huawei, Juniper, ADVA, Nokia;
  • Experience with photonic layer equipment configuration, power-up procedures, and commissioning workflows;
  • Familiarity with automation tools, network management software, and troubleshooting optical transport systems;
  • Ability to effectively interact with onsite personnel remotely to confirm and support installation activities;
  • Understanding of fiber optic connectivity, optical power measurements, and basic network protocols;
  • Knowledge of zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) and optical link calibration is a plus;
  • Fluent English (verbal and written) is essential;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate remote commissioning and local support efforts;
  • Working hours:  USA coverage time (15:00–00:00 EEST).
